Fantastic Panthers
Competing for Eastern Region but entered as Orwell Panthers, three athletes performed outstandingly and together with their team mates who included another Panther who was representing his school, clinched 5th place out of 13 teams.
Leading the way was Emma Jessup. Emma won the Gold Medal in the Group 13, Girls Under 15 1500 metres. Her time of 6m 53.1s set a new National Record. Fantastic Emma, we are all so proud of you. Emma has another three years to go in this age group so who knows what she will achieve?
Another Gold Medal was won in the Group 9, Under 17 Boys, 200 metres by Ollie Minns in a time of 33.2s. Congratulations, Ollie, Really well deserved. Ollie also picked up silver medals in the Long Jump with 3.18 metres and in two relays. He just missed out on a medal in the 100 metres, finishing 4th in 15.7 s.
More medals went to John Smith. In the Group 8, Boys under 17, Long Jump, John took silver with a leap of 2.19m. He won Bronze in the Javelin with a throw of 16.06m. Despite a very respectable 5.73m in the Shot, this was not good enough for a medal. John did, however, pick up a Bronze medal in the 4 x 60m relay.
Star of the show was another Panther, Kieron Jessup, who was representing his school, Warren School, in the Group 13, Boys under 15 category. Kieron won three individual Gold Medals and set a new National Record on the way. In the 400 metres Kieron's winning time of 71.1 s set a new National Record. He won the 100 metres in 13.8s and the 200 metres in 29.2s.
All in all a truly spectacular performance by our athletes and congratulations to each and every one of you.
