Athletics Championships
for Disabled People 2008
On a cold and miserable Saturday on 17th May, the Panthers joined other athletes from around the region to contest the Eastern Championships. Despite the conditions the atmosphere and spirit of the games was fantastic. Athletes popped out of their various shelters to contest track and field events in addition to some speciality events for those less abled.
The Red vest of Orwell Panthers was often to be seen competing strongly with athletes from Luton, Bedford, Cambridge, and all points of the compass around the East of England.
Everyone performed exceptionally well including the many Panther Officials who were supporting the day. The judges were some of the top judges in track and field athletics so times and distances would be recorded with the greatest accuracy.
All the Panther results are listed below and everyone of them is a champion but the day ended with the showers beginning to die away and a red hurricane hit the track when first Emma stormed home in the 1500m to take gold, thrilling all the onlookers and then Michael charged the length of the straight to claim the Blue Ribbon event in the Men's 100 metres.
Well done everyone. I for one can't wait for the Panther Challenge in July to get excited again.
Colin was busy officiating on the day but here are four pictures he did manage to get.
