On a bitterly cold and
windy Sunday morning, the Panthers set off to the North of the county
to contest the next Cross Country meeting at Bungay. Though severe
rain was forecast we were lucky to escape that and the course was firm
under foot though there were many potholes to which Ryan can confirm
as he took a heavy tumble just yards after the start. As they set off
around the heath and into the woods, the runners were not to know that
the organisers had added an extra mile or so to the usual length of
the Juniors races. This was eventually to tell on all the Panthers
though everyone finished the race and each was a credit to themselves
and to their club. Chairman Mike was extremely proud of all the
Panthers for the way they conducted themselves in very difficult
circumstances. Leading the Panthers home was Lee who managed to get
ahead of Olly who was unfortunate to take a couple of late falls.
Another good stint of running and buddying from Stephen should stand
him up well to take on the senior course soon. Despite his earlier
fall, Ryan once more finished strongly. Kieron found the day and the
distance a little hard this week but he still remains a firm favourite
to lead the boys team home at the end of the season but he will need
to be back on form next time. Performance of the day in the juniors
came from Emma our youngest runner, brilliantly buddied by Kim, Emma
stormed up hills and put in a stunning kick finish. Daniel A returned
this week and ran a solid race even though at times he felt the cold.
Michael ran most of the way with Daniel but lost a little form right
at the end yet finished well. Well supported by his buddy, Tom, Luke
battled all the way round the very long course at times in
considerable pain. Luke finished the course and should feel rewarded
for his bravery. In the senior race, Danny was running very well but
confessed at the end to finding it hard going this week. Shaun ran his
usual solid steady race and looked strong at the finish. Well done to
all the runners, that Panther vest stands out well on our excellent
runners. |
