NOVEMBER 2007

Glitter Ball 2008 is launched!

The official launch of the Glitter Ball 2008 event is being held at Betty’s Nightclub in Ipswich on Wednesday 28 November.

The Glitter Ball is a unique event for people with disabilities which will be held in the Trinity Rooms, Suffolk Showground on 10 May 2008. The aim is to provide a glitzy and glamorous ball, including an opening reception with an Art Exhibition by Genesis, a meal, the New Wolsey Group Comedy Cabaret ‘Night Out’, Dance East’s Spin Off performance and band Soul Kitchen. Both the cabaret and dance acts will be exclusively created and performed by people with disabilities. The Genesis exhibition is also by artists with disabilities.

The event is being organised by Glitter Events, a committee of voluntary members from various organisations including No Limits, Suffolk County Council’s Locality Development Team, Betty’s Nightclub, The Y Club and Optua. The project was started this year with the aim of giving people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in and attend events incorporating music, dance, art and drama. The aim is not only to provide a wonderful night for disabled people to enjoy but will also give those taking part the skills and aspiration to develop and promote their own abilities and confidence as well as reducing the very real effects of rural isolation.

The launch later this month coincides with a regular night for disabled people at Betty’s Nightclub and aims to provide information about the event for anyone interested in coming along or supporting or helping out at the Glitter Ball next year. It offers the opportunity for those interested in getting involved and potential sponsors, to meet with the service users, carers and families and see first hand the benefits this event will offer. The Glitter Events committee will be available to answer any questions and you will also have the opportunity to talk directly with some of the people with disabilities who will be taking part in the Ball.

Anyone interested can come along to the launch on 28 November from 7.30pm to 8.30pm or call Lynda Skelton on 01379 873666 for more information. The organisers are very keen to hear from anyone who may like to sponsor or support the event. It is a fantastic opportunity for companies to be involved in supporting the local community. All donations and sponsors will be acknowledged in our publicity.
