PRIMARY & SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ ATHLETICS DAY FOR DEAF AND HEARING IMPAIRED

AT CRYSTAL PALACE STADIUM, LONDON WEDNESDAY 13th JUNE 2007

I am writing this letter to introduce myself that I am Sandra Campbell, Development Officer and Event Organiser for London Deaf Athletics Association (LDAA) includes outside of South East area with the support from Deaf UK Athletics (DUKA) to developing and encouraging young pupils/students interesting into athletics.

London Deaf Athletics Association is in association with Deaf UK Athletics is setting up to organise Primary & Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships for the Hearing Impaired which will be on annually and these are for the pupils/students from Year 3 to 11.  Last year’s 1st Schools’ Athletics Day on 19th April 2006 were successful with 130 schools children involved in this brilliant events.  We wish to say many thanks to your generous support in helping with the official work.

The 2nd Athletics Day holding at Crystal Palace Athletics Stadium, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, Ledrington Road , London SE19 2BB , will be on Wednesday 13th June 2007 .

Since Deaflympics Games 2005 at Melbourne , Australia , the athletics team have achieved successful with five medals (2 golds, 1 sliver and 2 bronzes), one of them is a 16 years old girl won two gold medals.  London Deaf Athletics with Deaf UK Athletics plans are to give athletics opportunities to those young deaf and partially hearing young people who wish to take up athletics in view of representing GB Athletics Team in the Deaflympics in Taipei 2009.

London Deaf Athletics Association (LDAA) is very short of funds and we desperately require assistance either with funding and/or assistance with voluntary helpers to support London Deaf Athletics Association by helping with young deaf/hearing impaired children on Track and Field, also need volunteers for guiders, scoreboard, messengers etc - Possible voluntary officials to support for gun/flag shots, timekeepers, supervisors, distance counters etc.

I am wondering if it is possible for your organisation’s or athletics club voluntary supporters to help us to running a school athletics day.

Refreshments will be providing and your traveling expenses will to be paid, you will need to keep any receipt when traveling by car, coaches, buses or trains.

If you have further ideas to assist me, please do not hesitate to let me know and I look forward to hearing from you shortly

Yours in athletics
