METRO CHAMPIONSHIPS

for the Blind and Visually Impaired

13th June 2009 at Walthamstowe

For the first time Panthers were represented at these Championships by an athlete rather than by officials only. 12 year old Olivia entered the 100 metres, Shot  and Long Jump and acquitted herself brilliantly. Having to compete as an under 14 Olivia exceeded expectations by returning home with two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal.

Well done Olivia we are all very proud of you.

National Junior Athletics

 Championships 2009

With Kieron and Emma moving on to Diss A.C. our representation was down to two this year at the Junior Champs at Blackpool. Nevertheless, Olly and Olivia still did us proud and brought back plenty of medals. 

Olivia competing as an under 15 achieved Bronze Medal in the 100 metres and Silver in the Long Jump. 

Olly Won Gold for his 400 metres and Silver Medals in Long Jump and 4 x 400 metres relay. He also ran a creditable 6th in a fast run 200 metres.

Former Panthers Emma and Kieron also won medals and we congratulate them. 

Emma won two Gold Medals for 1500 metres and High Jump. 

Kieron won Bronze in the 400 metres and Silver in the 4 x 400 metres relay.

The outstanding performances from a local athlete came from Ipswich Harrier, Jonathan Adams. Jonathan won two Golds, for Discus and Shot ( both National Records) and one Silver, for Javelin.  Congratulations, Jonathan, we all hope that you can go on to bigger and better things. Maybe even 2012. We hope, so you deserve it.

Overall the East Region finished 2nd in its highest position ever.  An amazing performance outshining the bright pink shirts they all wore.
