An Eye for the Future

In 2006 at the Norwich Union National Junior Games at Stoke Mandeville, two of our officials Mike and Paul were asked to identify any athletes with potential to be future champions. There were a variety of sports and a host of young athletes to choose from.

For Paul and Mike, one athlete stood out as having the dedication and drive to get where she wanted to go.

They voted for a 16 year old girl from Bury in Lancashire who tried all the sports but who exceeded at Boccia.

Her name was Zoe Robinson and now 18 years old, Zoe has been selected to represent Great Britain as the only female Boccia Player in the team at the 2008 Paralympic games in Beijing.

GB Paralympic team for Beijing

Paralympics

Great Britain is expected to send a team of about 400 athletes and coaches to the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and compete in 18 of the 20 sports.

In Athens four years ago, GB finished second to China in the medals table with 94 medals, including 35 golds.

Selection is well underway for the GB team for this year's Games, which will take place from 6-17 September.
