NEWS RELEASE
Suffolk Winter Sportshall Athletics League Match 1
Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, Bury St Edmunds
Sunday 5th November
Sportshall Athletics League takes off
Suffolk’s first Sportshall Athletics league was officially launched a fortnight ago with a team challenge at Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich. On that occasion the home side came out marginal winners over the West of Suffolk. This Sunday the result was reversed as West of Suffolk turned out in force at their home venue Abbeycroft Leisure Centre, Bury St Edmunds to win by a margin of 28 points with Rest of Suffolk and Waveney in 3rd and 4th places respectively.
It is worth noting that teams are made up of both able bodied and disabled athletes. With respect to the performance by disabled athletes special mention must be made of the contribution made by pupils from the Warren School, Lowestoft to the Waveney score.
Suffolk Athletics Development Officer Vicky Tunaley said "Once again there was a brilliant and unique atmosphere and everyone is looking forward to the crunch match where the league winners will be crowned".
The final Match in the series will take place in Lowestoft in December and athletes, team managers and parents alike are eager to see if Waveney can capitalise on their home advantage.
Results Match 1
1 West of Suffolk 408 points
2 Ipswich 380 points
3 Rest of Suffolk 228 points
4 Waveney 218 points
