Panthers Spotted in Suffolk Countryside
On a glorious morning in late October, Cecilia Foulger, took a team of seven Panthers to compete for the first time in a Cross Country event. The team had affiliated to the Suffolk Cross Country League and competed in a field of 80 junior athletes in the shadow of Framlingham Castle. The course was approximately one mile long and had many ups and downs including a steep drop into the castle moat, a very narrow path along the moat and an even steeper climb out again.
When we see that the 85 juniors running one lap of the course were mixed up with 210 senior athletes it is clear that there was often intolerable amount of congestion. Each had their own battles in the unfamiliar territory in which they found themselves. Some found that they could have paced themselves differently, others found the distance a real hurdle, and others found the underfoot conditions a new experience. Nevertheless, the seven Panthers acquitted themselves well. All finished and really turned on the performance in the finishing straight. Ably buddied by Paul and Ben and encouraged all the way by a large and vociferous pack of supporters our seven heroes gave the County of Suffolk yet another view of the fabulous club called Orwell Panthers.
Well done to Sean Wilson-Taylor, Stephen Foulger, Ryan Storey, Michael Davis, Olly Minns, Latisha Alexander and Matthew Howard.
Next meeting of the League is on November 19th at Bungay. Good luck guys. Go show them again.
